Day 3 of 7 of our Get Healthier Campaign

Breakfast - Grapefruit

On the run this morning so needed something super quick to start the day. First things first, a mug of warm lemon water and then a simple grapefruit with some ground flaxseed and nuts.

Not sure you need a recipe for this one but I will say while grapefruit is not to everyones taste, we do recommend the ruby versions over the standard ones if that helps. I find them much tastier and sweeter!

Simply cut in half and sprinkle with ground flaxseed. (See below for why flax is so good for you.) Always choose the milled version and store in the fridge with all your nuts and seeds. This keeps them fresher for longer and prevents them going rancid very quickly. We even keep the milled flaxseed in the deep freeze as our fridge is so full of other fresh veg and fruit.  We recommend you consume ground flax because whole flaxseeds just pass right through the body undigested. Eating ground flax allows your body to absorb all the goodness.

Finally we grabbed a handful of mixed nuts to munch on. A good source of fat in the morning and helps keep you fuller for longer.

Why its good for you:

Flaxseed: 52% of the fat in Flaxseed is the Essential Fatty Acid Omega-3 which our bodies cannot produce. Omega -3 helps reduce inflammation in our bodies and helps maintain a healthy heart.   Due to its high fibre content it is known to  help lower cholesterol  and stabilize blood sugar levels. Flax is also high in phytochemicals, including many antioxidants and Lignan a type of phyto-oestrogen which assists in eliminating excess free radicals from the body.

We would love to hear your feedback so let us know if you try this what you think in the comments below.
